Uvey, pronounced oovee, was taken to Mavis Righini in November 2002 because he had been found wandering during the day, this is usually a sign that all is not well. Mavis found that there was actually nothing physically wrong with Uvey, he just seemed to prefer being out during the day and was also very friendly. This is however not a good thing as he was obviously at risk from uncaring humans etc.
Uvey came to live in our secure garden in April 2003 where he could live safely even though he didn't live the usual nocturnal hedgehog life. The nice thing for us was we got to see him during the early evening when it was still light, which is not usually possible. He carried on feeding all through the winter and never went into hibernation so we got to know him well. Sadly he was attacked and killed by a fox on the 10th March 2004.
