Penny's owners moved
home, shortly after she went missing but evidently only went a couple
of roads away. She was fed as a stray in somebody's garden for over
a year before Croydon Cats Protection was contacted. She was taken to
the local vet who gave her a check and found a microchip which led to
the owners being found, unfortunately they didn't want her back as they
were moving abroad, this is when she found her way to us in late 2023.
In December 2024 it was obvious that she was having trouble eating and
          rubbing her mouth, sometimes
with both paws when she would fall on her face! Something had to be
done so it was off to the vets!
The vet found that she was in urgent need of a dental and was suspicious
that she might have a viral
infection in her mouth, feline calicivirus. On the 18th December she
went to the vets and had most of
her teeth removed. She has since been treated with Antibiotics and Steroid
          injections to treat the
viral infection and is check regularly.
In February 2025, at a regular checkup, she was found to be suffering
          from hyperthyroidism. She was
put on Methimazole Gel, that is rubbed into the inside of alternate
ears, to normalise her levels before
surgery. She had her operation on 18th March 2025 which was successful
          and subsequent blood tests
showed normal thyroid hormone levels. The only problem for poor Penny
was the "post op cat suit"
she had to wear as can be seen in the photo above, she hated it and
managed to rip large holes in it!
